Principal’s Desk News & Information Upcoming Dates School Care News
Dear SMSA Families,
We hope this message finds you well and thriving! As we move through this exciting time of year, we want to share some important information, celebrate our achievements, and express our gratitude for your unwavering support.
We want to take a moment to celebrate the wonderful work happening at SMSA. Next week, our campus will be closed for spring break, providing everyone an opportunity to reflect, relax, and recharge. Each day on the Ledge offers small moments of education, and we are blessed to witness the dedication of our teachers and staff as they invest their talents and hearts into shaping the future.
May this break allow you to spend quality time with loved ones, step away from the busyness of school, reflect on the growth we’ve made this year, and rest as we prepare for the exciting conclusion of the school year!
The Alpha generation and Generation Z are amazing people; however, they are facing threats online that older generations did not experience. Spring break is a good time to set aside some time to LEAN into hard conversations. Learn together with your child. Engage in difficult topics found online that they may encounter, especially if they are on social media or play online games through Xbox or other systems. Announce expectations if they encounter someone online who wants to harm them. Provide Next steps to help them through such a harmful experience. Yes, the white rectangular van we worried about when we were children is now a rectangular phone with anyone on the inside. Let your child know you care for them, so we will have to talk about difficult topics. We will be there through anything if they let us know they need help. They are not alone is what these two generations need to hear from us. We need to charge into there world and LEAN in with support.
Beginning the week of March 31st and concluding on April 11th, Forward testing for Grades 3 – 8 will take place at SMSA. As part of the Forward Exam, students will need wired earbuds or wired headphones. Please ensure that your child(ren) are present during the testing window to help us achieve success. Thank you for your cooperation!
Happy early St. Patrick’s Day! St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity, illustrating how three leaves can exist as one. This concept aligns beautifully with our educational mission at SMSA, where we believe in the unity of our community—parents, students, and the school working together to foster a Catholic education rooted in Christ’s teachings. Together, we strive for academic excellence and service to both church and community, preparing our students to face global challenges and become the leaders of tomorrow.
We are grateful for your ongoing support and partnership in your child’s education. Together, we make a difference in the lives of our students.
God Bless,
Steven Kelnhofer
Elementary Principal, SMSA

In April we will be celebrating SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH. To help celebrate, we would like each student to be able to add a “brick” for every book they check out (keep in mind our older students can check out up to 3 books a week! That’s a lot of LEGOs!) What will we build? It’s up to the students and their placement of their “bricks”. So if you have any extra clean LEGOs and are willing to donate them to the library…we would LOVE to take them off your hands! Duplo sized would be wonderful for our younger students, and building plates would also be great to have as well. Stay tuned and find out what we build!
Deadline to donate Lego’s is Friday, March 14, 2025 – Lego’s can be turned in to the South Hall Office.
Our 5th-8th Grade Spring Concert will be held on Wednesday, May 14th in Hutter gymnasium.
