Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we journey through January, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and partnership. Each day, we witness the growth and learning of our students here on the Ledge, and we are so thankful to have you as part of our community.
This week, students in second through eighth grade started their winter MAP tests in the areas of language, math, and reading. Students grow in their faith life as well through many moments during the school day while being surrounded by prayer, our chapel, and good examples set by our faculty and staff. Developing the whole child is crucial to fulfilling our mission as SMSA.
As I reflect upon the first half of the school year, various stories of the Ledger Way in action fill my heart and mind—moments of challenge and triumph. Moments that cause us to stumble yet serve as opportunities to move forward into learning experiences. Moments when Christ has been with us to carry us on our journey. Moments that contain adventures of learning and triumph through uncovering new knowledge and skills to apply in our lives. I pray these moments influence us to realize that our community has the ability to impact the world around us and that we can be the window through which Christ enters the world.
Last week, during the Principal’s Pen breakfast, one of our little ledgers volunteered to begin our time with a spontaneous prayer. She was awesome as she stated, with her eyes closed, “Jesus, I love you. Our almighty Father in Heaven, I love you. Thank you for our many blessings, as I love you.”
There was another student in the 6-8 hallway who saw me cleaning up water by the water fountain and volunteered to help clean up the mess. This eighth-grade student has a gift for lifting the spirits of those around her each day with her consistent and infectious smile and her kind actions.
The stories shared during the Principal’s Pen breakfast about being respectful, responsible, showing leadership, and living in our faith community are always heartfelt moments—AWESOME and AMAZING! Make no mistake about it, the Ledger Way and the Ledger Spirit are alive and well.
As we move forward, we look ahead with excitement for the opportunities that lie ahead. Together, we are shaping the future of our children and empowering them to achieve their dreams. Thank you for your ongoing support in making SMSA a wonderful place for learning and growth.
God Bless,
Steven Kelnhofer

We’re excited to announce that Girls on the Run (GOTR) is returning for another season at SMSA! GOTR is a national nonprofit program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using fun lessons that creatively integrate running. This program empowers girls in grades 3–5 to build social, emotional, and physical skills that will help them navigate life’s challenges. Each practice includes engaging discussions focused on important topics like self-confidence, teamwork, and goal-setting, followed by fun physical activities to build endurance for a celebratory, non-competitive 5K event in May. No running experience is needed—just a positive attitude and a willingness to have fun! Registration is open from January 22 – February 7, and participants are selected through a lottery system managed by GOTR of Fond du Lac County on February 13. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity for your daughter to grow, connect, and shine!
