From the Desk of Steve Kelnhofer - Elementary School Principal

Dear SMSA Families,
As we step into the final trimester of the school year, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and partnership. Your engagement is vital to our students’ success, and together, we can create an enriching school experience.

This past Wednesday, SMSA began our journey of Lent with our All-System Mass at Holy Family on Ash Wednesday. Lent is a time for reflection and practicing the three disciplines of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer. In my experience teaching second grade, we would discuss not only what we might “give up” during Lent but also what positive actions or habits we could embrace in their place. This season offers us the opportunity to create new habits that enhance our lives and the lives of others. I encourage you to take time this week to discuss Lent with your family and explore different ways to practice these disciplines as we strive to become the best versions of ourselves.

This week marks the beginning of our final trimester. Report cards will be available for digital signing and access in Skyward on March 6th. To view your child/children’s report card, please follow these steps:
Log into Family Access.
Click on the Portfolio tab on the left side.
Look for your child’s name.
Under Description, find the document labeled “Report Card” for the current term.
Click the document title; the Electronic Signature box will appear.
Click “View Report” to see your child’s report card.
After reviewing, click the small box, “I Agree.”
Click “Submit Signature” when you are finished.

Student learning continues to be one of our top priorities at SMSA. If you have any concerns or questions regarding your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to reach out to teachers during their business hours to set up a conference. We encourage healthy partnerships to foster student achievement.

Forward testing for Grades 3 – 8 will take place from April 1st through April 11th. Please ensure that your child(ren) are present during this time to facilitate a successful testing experience. Additionally, students will need wired earbuds or wired headphones for part of the Forward Exam.

As we journey through this Lenten season, please know that you are in my prayers. My prayer is for families to take the time to notice one another and cultivate an attitude of gratitude. Let us remember that we are cared for every day. Thank you for your ongoing support in making SMSA a nurturing and thriving community. I look forward to our continued collaboration and the positive impact we can make together for our students.

God Bless,
Steven Kelnhofer
Elementary Principal, SMSA

Wanted LEGOs for Library

In April we will be celebrating SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH. To help celebrate, we would like each student to be able to add a “brick” for every book they check out (keep in mind our older students can check out up to 3 books a week! That’s a lot of LEGOs!) What will we build? It’s up to the students and their placement of their “bricks”. So if you have any extra clean LEGOs and are willing to donate them to the library…we would LOVE to take them off your hands! Duplo sized would be wonderful for our younger students, and building plates would also be great to have as well. Stay tuned and find out what we build!

Deadline to donate Lego’s is Friday, March 14, 2025 – Lego’s can be turned in to the South Hall Office.
