From the Office of Eamonn O'Keeffe: High School Principal

National Catholic Schools Week 2025

Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week has been the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. This year, recognizing the exceptional contributions of the hundreds of Catholic schools in the Badger State, Governor Tony Evers has also proclaimed Catholic Schools Week in the state of Wisconsin!

During CSW, schools across the country highlight the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, communities and nation. Based on the average public school per-pupil cost of $14,500 per school year, the National Catholic Educational Association estimates that Catholic schools across the country currently provide $25 billion in operational savings each year to the nation’s public school districts.

At SMSA, we trace our history to 1909 when the Sisters of St. Agnes accepted the challenge to convet an infirmary into an academy for young women aged 7-16 years old. During the first year, only 17 students learned on the Ledge! Almost immediatley, the Academy began to grow, then outgrow its facilities! It has been changing and improving the student expereince ever since. Always faithful to its humble Catholic roots, SMSA has formed a Catholic worldview for generations of Wisconsin students .

On the Ledge, we recognize that what we learn becomes part of who we are. Faculty and staff work hard to integrate our Ledger Way core values into all that we do – especially into the consiousness and imaginations of our students. Our teacher, coaches, counselors and all manner of staff mentors are dedicated to fostering these values in students during our school days, ever conscious that SMSA instructors are responsible not only for academic standards, but for character education in the Catholic tradition. Our parents reinforce school values in countless acts of fidelity and generosity.

Catholic Schools Week at SMSA has been a joyful way to begin Semester II, reminding all here of our identity and mission. Special daily themes and activities culminating with an assembly Thursday and All System Mass on Friday have helped us note the many benefits of being a Catholic School community. All parents and guardians are invited to join the celebration at Holy Family Church for our Catholic Schools Week Mass at 9am on Friday, January 31st.

Our Lady of the Ledge, pray for us.
Mr. Eamonn O’Keeffe,
High School Principal

Get involved with our Parent Connectors Group!!

Are you wanting to get more involved in our Parent Connectors Group? If so, look for the Parent Connectors volunteer form in your packet you will be receiving at the supply drop off day (3K-5th Grade). If your youngest child is in 6th grade or above, you won’t be receiving a form to fill out but can email Andrea Nuss, alnuss@charter.net, to share that you are interested in being a part of our group. Every year a new email group gets created so please submit your form even if you have done so in the past years. Also, only one form per family is needed to be filled out. Throughout the year, our group has various school family events as well shows our amazing SMSA Staff how appreciative we are for them. By being a part of our group, you will receive emails that shares ways you can help with these events through volunteering and donating. Our group wouldn’t be a successful without all of the wonderful people involved in it. Thank you so much! If you have any questions, please email Andrea Nuss, alnuss@charter.net.
