In recent articles the word “chaotic” has become a literary theme. It is the way some journalists choose to describe the state of our world these days. Looking at current global realities, it is easy to see why. I have read stories reporting on war and violence; disease ravaged nations; urban and rural hunger; people suffering grief, emotional chaos, fear, and injustice. Along with these, dramatic economic shifts and uncertainties cause chaos in the lives of many.
On Ash Wednesday we were reminded: ‘even now, says the Lord, return to me with all your heart. Even now in the face of social and global instability, uncertainty and change, we are called to find God, who Christians believe is found everywhere and in all things.
The liturgical season of Lent is traditionally a time of penance, fasting and almsgiving. Christians reflect on opportunities to be more intentional about how their faith in the living God informs their choices and actions in a world so in need of mercy, love, healing and redemption. It has been said that the virtue of any society can be measured by how the most vulnerable are treated. Certainly the Gospel message supports this idea.
We treasure our Catholic identity and mission at SMSA. It informs all our strategies. We do our best to become a more reflective and conscious learning community. As Ledgers develop deeper awareness of the mystery of the Incarnation and the Good News of the Gospel, we see them grow in curiosity and virtue. Our students learn that through Jesus, God entered into solidarity with people of the ancient world, and with all people of all ages – especially those who suffer and are lost in a challenging, chaotic and often violent society.
This Lent, we will continue to turn our prayers and attention toward those who suffer – in our Springs community and the broader world – in places torn apart by conflict and war like Ukraine, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.
May God continue to help Ledgers grow in awareness of the needs of others. During Lent, may our students embrace ways of helping others who are more needy than themselves. May empathy and love – especially for the least among us – be the defining characteristic of our lives as Ledgers and Christians.
Our Lady of the Ledge, pray for us.

In April we will be celebrating SCHOOL LIBRARY MONTH. To help celebrate, we would like each student to be able to add a “brick” for every book they check out (keep in mind our older students can check out up to 3 books a week! That’s a lot of LEGOs!) What will we build? It’s up to the students and their placement of their “bricks”. So if you have any extra clean LEGOs and are willing to donate them to the library…we would LOVE to take them off your hands! Duplo sized would be wonderful for our younger students, and building plates would also be great to have as well. Stay tuned and find out what we build!
Deadline to donate Lego’s is Friday, March 14, 2025 – Lego’s can be turned in to the South Hall Office.
When: April 5, 2025 – Doors open @ 5:00
Where: FCC – 400 University Dr, Fond du Lac, WI

Are you wanting to get more involved in our Parent Connectors Group? If so, look for the Parent Connectors volunteer form in your packet you will be receiving at the supply drop off day (3K-5th Grade). If your youngest child is in 6th grade or above, you won’t be receiving a form to fill out but can email Andrea Nuss, alnuss@charter.net, to share that you are interested in being a part of our group. Every year a new email group gets created so please submit your form even if you have done so in the past years. Also, only one form per family is needed to be filled out. Throughout the year, our group has various school family events as well shows our amazing SMSA Staff how appreciative we are for them. By being a part of our group, you will receive emails that shares ways you can help with these events through volunteering and donating. Our group wouldn’t be a successful without all of the wonderful people involved in it. Thank you so much! If you have any questions, please email Andrea Nuss, alnuss@charter.net.
