St. Mary’s Springs Academy is embarking on a bold planning initiative designed to build a blueprint for the future. Your thoughts on plans and priorities are important. • The week of October 14-18, 2024, gather with your family and friends, students are hitting the track to walk, run, or jog and combine their mileage to reach their virtual destination, Mission San Diego de Alcalá. Take a walk or run with our students, as a family or individually, and record your mileage by clicking here. Check back during the week to see how close we get to our destination, Mission San Diego de Alcalá, located in San Diego, CA, which is 2101.3 miles away.
• Make a donation by clicking here. 100% of your donation goes directly to support SMSA! The impact of your donation will do even more to help our school, as generous Catholic Schools Walk sponsors have stepped up to match donations received, up to our goal of $5,000!

We are collecting USED/broken crayons to donate to the Crayon Initiative. The Crayon Initiative is a program which takes used crayons, melts them down, and creates new triangle shaped crayons to donate to Children’s Hospitals across the country.  They create the triangle crayons so that the crayons do not roll off hospital trays.

Donation days are December 2, March 24, and May 29. Please bring them to the office or your child’s homeroom teacher on those dates.

Do you have a gently used or like new instrument(s) that you are looking to donate? SMSA is looking to add instruments to our band programs for students who are just starting out, in need of help financially, and/or are unsure what they would like to play and may need to try a few different options. Instruments can be dropped off at the North or South office during regular school hours.

All uniform and spirit wear pieces that your child has outgrown, throughout the school year, can be dropped off at the North, South or Scrip office during regular business hours during the summer.

If your high school or middle school child participates in band, chorus, theater, or jazz vocals/band, you are invited to join the PPA and support arts programming at SMSA. Meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6 pm in the Lauby Lounge (first floor teacher lounge). Our next meeting is on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. As the leaves begin to change and the temps get colder it is a sure sign that Halloween season is here.

We are excited to once again offer Trunk or Treat for our SMSA Families and invite you to participate! Below you will find details about the event as well as a sign up form to register you/ your vehicle for handing out candy. PLEASE NOTE: Based on the new rules from the Archdiocese, ALL candy distributors MUST BE SEE TRAINED. If your SEE training is not up to date, there is still time to do so before Trunk of Treat. See details below.

Trunk or Treat: SMSA South Parking Lot
Thursday, October 31, 2024
Time:
• Trunk decorating: 5:15 – 5:45 p.m.
• Trunk or Treating: 6 – 7 p.m.

Please complete the registration form by Friday, October 25, 2024.
If you are not handing out candy and just want to attend the event with your kids, you do not need to register and SEE training is not required. Event attendees not handing out candy can park in the lower lot at school and walk up to the South lot to enjoy the event.

SEE TRAINING:
Looking to update your SEE Training or take the course for the first time?
Remember, SEE Training is required to volunteer and chaperone at SMSA – so if you haven’t already – register today and complete the course to be SEE Trained qualified for the next 5 years!

Note: if you have already done SEE training and just need the do the refresher course (required every 5 years). Here is the link for the renewal process: Safe Environment. On the left side of your screen, you will see three bullet points and the third one will give you directions to renew your training. This is completed online and at your convenience.

Are you wanting to get more involved in our Parent Connectors Group? If so, look for the Parent Connectors volunteer form in your packet you will be receiving at the supply drop off day (3K-5th Grade). If your youngest child is in 6th grade or above, you won’t be receiving a form to fill out but can email Andrea Nuss, alnuss@charter.net, to share that you are interested in being a part of our group. Every year a new email group gets created so please submit your form even if you have done so in the past years. Also, only one form per family is needed to be filled out. Throughout the year, our group has various school family events as well shows our amazing SMSA Staff how appreciative we are for them. By being a part of our group, you will receive emails that shares ways you can help with these events through volunteering and donating.
